FHM Writers Say Rape "Can Be Fun", Show Porn Mentality

This comment was made in response to FHM’s features editor, Max Barashenkov’s Facebook status update: “I propose correctional rape and sterilisation for any white person who twerks.”

To twerk is to dance by vigorously shaking your bottom.

Moorosi and Barashenkov have been suspended by FHM Editor, Brendan Cooper, for making these comments.

Callous and cruel
These two shocking rape-condoning comments by FHM writers, show yet again the callous and cruel attitude that those desensitized by porn have towards the exploitation of women.

Frequent in FHM
According to a blogger, similar comments trivialising the exploitation of women in sexual acts, are frequently published in FHM.

Pornified
Pornography is propaganda for a rape culture. The pornography industry has been so successful in pornifying society that the sexualisation and objectification of women has become normal, to the point where rape is not only condoned by many men, but thought of as something ‘fun’.

Slippery slope
Magazines such as FHM are like a ‘starter pack’ for porn addiction. They are the first step on a slippery slope towards addiction to hard-core porn. Not everyone who reads FHM magazines will become addicted to porn, but many porn addicts say that their first exposure to porn was via ‘men’s magazines’, similar to FHM, sold in most supermarkets.

Fight the New Drug
According to medical researchers, porn is as addictive as hard core drugs like LSD and cocaine. Even upon the first exposure to porn, the brain begins to re-wire itself.

If the SA government is serious about combatting the rape crisis, then pornography must be re-criminalised.

Pornography to be blocked by major internet providers in UK
The UK has made some positive moves towards blocking internet porn.

Under the new measures for households, web users in the UK will have to specifically request porn from their internet providers.

By the end of 2013 more than 12 million households signed up to Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk will have to tick boxes when they apply or messages will be sent to existing users making them decide if they want a “clean feed” or not.

In public, “clean feed” internet is set to be introduced on the high street, on public transport and at sporting venues, with major companies such as BT, Virgin and O2 signing up to the plan.
